Nature of this site
firebancanada.com aggregates and republishes fire ban and fire restriction status information from Canadian provincial and territorial government sources. It is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any government agency, fire department, wildfire service, or park authority. Every status shown links to its original government source; that source, not this site, is the legally authoritative record.
Source data and licences
Each province we report is published under its own licence, and the attribution each one requires appears on that province's page. At the time of writing this covers Saskatchewan (Standard Unrestricted Use Data Licence v2.0), Québec (CC-BY 4.0), and Newfoundland and Labrador (Open Government Licence – Newfoundland and Labrador). The map outlines come from Statistics Canada under the Open Government Licence – Canada.
Provinces whose data is licensed for non-commercial use only are deliberately absent from this site until their issuing authority grants permission. The coverage page names which ones those are.
Liability for content
We compile the information on this site from public government sources with care and update it on a scheduled cycle, but we cannot guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness at every moment. Fire bans change during the day; a status here may be hours old, and the page always shows when it was last read. As a service provider we are responsible for our own content on these pages under general legal principles. We are not obligated to monitor third-party information we merely link to for indications of illegality. Specific legal obligations to remove or block the use of information remain unaffected. Liability in this regard is only possible from the point at which a concrete infringement becomes known to us; upon becoming aware of any such infringement, we will remove the relevant content promptly.

This site links to official government pages and agency portals as the record of truth for each fire ban status. We have no influence on the current or future content of those pages. The linked sites' operators are solely responsible for their own content. Linked pages were checked for obvious legal violations at the time of linking; permanent monitoring without concrete evidence of a violation is not reasonable. Upon becoming aware of any infringement, we will remove the link promptly.
